Today, Philip and Amalia Scontsas play an active role in their business and community. Like the two generations before him, Philip, Amalia and their loyal staff are the force behind Scontsas Fine Jewelry & Home Décor. Since his teenage years Philip has been involved in the “family” business. Balancing school and work, Philip attended college at UNH then attended the Gemological Institute of America to become a Graduate Gemologist. Through the years Philip has maintained the integrity of the long running business as well as evolving with the times. Scontsas is known for its top quality and attention to style.

In the mid 1990's, Philip and Amalia founded their home décor department to compliment the long running jewelry store. Together they have formed a niche featuring the shabby chic look with strong European influences. The stores have become a “shopping must” while in Nashua. Their customer list has grown immensely throughout the state and New England. The Scontsas’s continue to grow and aspire to keep a boutique feel while providing personal services.

The Scontsas continue to be an active force in Nashua's downtown organization, Great American Downtown (GAD). They have been principals of many of the events and happenings, including Taste of Downtown Nashua, the downtown tree lighting and many merchant initiatives. Philip is also active in the Nashua Rotary Club and Amalia continues to work for the restoration of the Hunt Memorial Building. In their spare time Phillip and Amalia enjoy their family, home and garden and try get away for a vacation when they can.

Their home and store have been featured in several magazines including New Hampshire Magazine, Country Home, and Good Housekeeping.

Our History

Just after the turn of the century, George Scontsas opened a shoe repair shop that included a shoe shine parlor, barber shop, and hat blocking service in Downtown Nashua. As the store evolved, the elder Mr. Scontsas began to stock greeting cards, and by the mid ‘40's, his store was the first Hallmark store in Nashua. Scontsas and his children, keeping up with the times, added a toy department, yarn, paperback books, and a large selection of gifts. In 1974, Peter Scontsas and his wife Joan, purchased deMontigny Jewelers in the adjacent building and opened the wall between the stores making them one.

Peter was innovative in his business practices, making every customer feel like family. Since his father’s death in 1995, Philip Scontsas and his wife Amalia developed a new department featuring decorative elements for the home and garden. According to Scontsas, “In some ways we’ve come full circle. It has been a tradition in our family to evolve our businesses in the direction that Downtown Nashua is heading – upscale, boutique, with personal service and individuality.”

Today Scontsas Fine Jewelry & Home Décor offer many gift items, such as fine estate pieces, contemporary jewelry, diamonds, giftware, silver, hollowware, pewter, antiques, architectural pieces, topiaries, and holiday ornaments. The store appeals to those looking for upscale, unusual, individual, one-of-a-kind, and quality items.
